Is Steph Curry better than Jordan? Not yet anyways. Believe me, as a fan and former basketball player myself, I marvel at the ease in which Steph Curry can consistently pull up from as far away as the parking lot and make close to 50%! Only Meadowlark Lemon could make such a boast! But is Curry better than Jordan? The answer can only boil down to a statistical question and it can only be debated through to Steph Curry’s current NBA season Vs Jordan’s rookie to 7th NBA season. Since no one can predict Curry’s stats going forward, lets take a look at the two to date:
Steph Curry from Rookie Season to 3/11/16:
Total Points= 10,536
Total Avg PPG= 22.1
Total FG= 3,722
Total FGA =7,806
Total FG% = 48%
Total 3PT = 1,495
Total 3PA= 3,366
Total 3P%= 44%
Total 2PT =2,227
Total 2PA= 4,440
Total 2P% =50%
Total Free Throw %= 90%
Total Rebounds = 2,041
Total Assists = 3,259
Total Steals =844
Michael Jordan’s Stats from Rookie to 7th NBA Season:
Total Points= 16,596
Total Avg PPG= 31.5
Total FG= 6,144
Total FGA =11,826
Total FG% = 51%
Total 3PT = 179
Total 3PA= 625
Total 3P%= 28%
Total 2PT =5,965
Total 2PA= 11,171
Total 2P% =53%
Total Free Throw %= 84%
Total Rebounds = 3,186
Total Assists = 3,108
Total Steals =1,412
Other than the 3pt category which Curry should be considered already as one of the greatest if not the greatest 3 point shooter to ever play. Jordan’s stats are dominate. If curry stays healthy then I think these stats will continue to narrow through future seasons. Then and only then can Curry be considered in the same conversation with Jordan. Only when we can compare a complete career side by side will we know the answer. I will however make this statement, Curry is the greatest “basketball player” I’ve ever seen. Jordan was/is the greatest athlete to ever play the game of basketball–End of Debate.
